UNREST

 

  • The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa has issued guidelines:
    • explaining a full import duty rebate application process for local manufacturers who have imported goods they were unable to produce because of the unrest, and
    •  providing details on the documents and information required.

 

COMPETITION

 

  • The Competition Commission has called for public comment on further issues emerging from its inquiry into the business-to-consumer online platform market.

 

ENERGY

 

  • The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has gazetted an additional amendment to Schedule 2 of the 2006 Electricity Regulation Act:
    • revising a first set of amendments gazetted on 12 August that:
      • gave practical effect to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcements in June
      • increased the licensing threshold for embedded generation projects to 100 MW, and
      • exempted several activities from licensing and registration requirements under the Act.

 

FINANCE

 

  • the Prudential Authority has called for stakeholder input on draft guidance notes for insurers on liquidity risk management.

 

  • The Accounting Standards Board has called for stakeholder input on proposed improvements to prevailing international public sector accounting standards for general purpose financial statements.
